A common civil society position paper on the 2028–2034 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) has been published by Civil Society Europe (CSE), in collaboration with a broad coalition of CSOs. In the document, an open and rights-based approach to the next EU budget is advocated, with emphasis placed on safeguarding democracy, fundamental rights, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. Recommendations have been made for enhanced structural support for civil society, the application of stronger Rule of Law conditionality, and the simplification of funding procedures, particularly for smaller organizations. Public online consultations on the MFF are open until May 6, with the EC inviting stakeholders and citizens to have their say on the future EU budget and the policies it should support.
