In the annual “Civilka” conference organized by BCSDN member Center for the Promotion of Civil Society (CPCD) in BiH, over 70 representatives from diverse sectors explored the challenges facing CSOs. The focus was on the unregulated state of the civil society sector, specifically the lack of clear categorization and transparency in financing from the public budget. The conference highlighted the concerns regarding accountability arising from the absence of accurate data on associations and foundations, coupled with a confusing allocation process and inadequate supervision. It underscored the necessity for collaborative efforts among CSOs to establish a more enabling environment for civil society development, dispelling the misconception of perceiving it solely as a “project market.”. Conclusions from “Civilka” will be communicated to state institutions, underlining the crucial role of the academic community and civil society in the country’s democratization processes.
