The latest Civicus Monitor Report for Turkey, a research update provided by BCSDN and published by Civicus, covering recent information on the state of the freedom of association, assembly, and expression, reflects on worrisome trends of the civil society and journalist position in the country. Due to complete restrictions on LGBTI events, including Pride marches, LGBTI communities have been prevented from exercising their right to peaceful assembly. Following the incidents and human rights violations during the Istanbul Pride March, many countries and international organizations, among which the Council of Europe (CoE), have urged the Turkish authorities to stop the brutalities. Protests were held on various occasions. For instance, in Istanbul, the protesters voiced anger after the government’s decision to withdraw from the CoE Convention to prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence, known as the Istanbul Convention.
