CIVICUS Monitor has launched the latest Global Data Report – People Power Under Attack. This annual report takes a closer look at trends and top violations to the civil rights in each of the 197 countries and territories monitored. Out of 54 countries monitored within Europe and Central Asia, civic space is rated as open in 19, narrowed in 21, obstructed in seven, repressed in three and closed in four. The most common violations in the regions noted in the report are of protester(s) detention, intimidation, harassment, restrictive laws and attacks on journalists. Smear campaigns against journalists and verbal attacks on journalists by political figures in Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia are noted in the report as well. Read more here.
