Citizen-generated data (CGD) is a powerful tool for achieving inclusive development and leaving no one behind. It involves collecting data directly from communities and citizens to inform policy-making, service delivery, and advocacy efforts. CGD can provide valuable insights into the needs and priorities of marginalized communities, often excluded from traditional data collection methods. Through CGD, communities can voice their concerns and hold governments accountable for delivering on their commitments. For example, in Tanzania, a CGD project led by women in rural areas led to installing electricity poles and a transformer, improving access to electricity for their communities. However, CGD still faces challenges, such as better capacity-building and ensuring accurate and reliable data. Nevertheless, with the proper support and investment, CGD has the potential to drive progress toward more inclusive and equitable development. Read more here.
