On the night of October 4th, 2024, several regions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including Jablanica, Tarčin, Kiseljak, Kreševo, and Konjic, were struck by catastrophic floods. The destruction was immense, with bridges swept away, homes submerged, and roads completely cut off. Many families are now dealing with significant material damage and loss. At this time, showing solidarity and providing support to these affected communities is important.
The Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN) expresses its heartfelt condolences to families of the victims. We stand in solidarity with those who have lost their loved ones and those whose homes were destroyed. Communities, individuals, activists, and CSOs across Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond have united in a collective response to support those in need.
Rescue teams are on the ground and essential supplies from across Europe are arriving. The European Commission has activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and is sending rescue teams on the ground. This is EU solidarity in action. This united response demonstrates the strength of collective efforts in providing critical relief to flood-affected areas.
