On 30-31 May in Belgrade, BCSDN organized the Regional Workshop “Joint Action for Promoting Civic Space and a More Resilient Civil Society”, gathering representatives from national and international CSOs, donors, journalists and interested individuals in a hybrid format. The event, supported by the Balkan Trust for Democracy, initially discussed the current CSO affairs in the Western Balkans, as we premiered the preliminary findings from the 2021 Monitoring Matrix Report, both the regional and the key national issues. This was followed by a discussion on the donor’s perspectives and approach in supporting civil society in crisis. The second day covered all the aspects of the (shrinking) civic space: how to recognize its narrowing, how to shift and expand it through the physical and cyberspace, and how to act together to combat the imposed restrictions. More information and videos from the event are available here.
