CSOs are urged to adopt Dynamic Accountability practices to rebuild legitimacy and secure survival amid shrinking freedoms and smear campaigns. Speaking at the Global Accountability Month online session, BCSDN Executive Director Biljana Spasovska noted that accountability now defines not just credibility but survival. Dynamic accountability moves beyond compliance, focusing on reconnecting CSOs with citizens and strengthening democratic culture. It is essential to transform accountability into a “shield and a power claim” against illiberal pressure. CSOs should adopt strategies such as context-sensitive openness, mutual accountability for collective safety, and the use of digital tools to strengthen public trust and participation. Spasovska will also be speaking at a follow-up accountability event on October 21. Read more here.
