The EU’s lithium mining deal with Serbia has worsened tensions, with critics claiming corporate interests are prioritized over democracy. Despite ongoing repression, the EU has yet to condemn the actions against Serbian civil society. Meanwhile, the European Green Party has backed anti-lithium mining protesters ahead of a key parliamentary debate in the National Assembly of Serbia this week, calling for stronger environmental protections.
