BCSDN member Partners Albania, together with 30 CSOs, has called on the Albanian Parliament to ensure that proposed amendments to its Rules of Procedure do not undermine transparency, parliamentary scrutiny, and public consultation in legislation related to EU integration. While recognising the need for efficiency during this intensive phase of accession negotiations, civil society stresses that fast-track procedures should not become the standard practice, as they risk limiting parliamentary debate, reducing opportunities for public consultation, and weakening civil society participation. European integration requires not only speed but strong democratic standards. Legislative processes related to EU alignment must remain open, predictable, and inclusive to ensure public trust and meaningful participation. Albanian CSOs reaffirm their readiness to contribute expertise and dialogue so that reforms linked to EU accession are both efficient and democratically legitimate. Read more here.
