The paper reflects on the shrinking civic space as a reason for the democratization backslide in Albania during 2015-2020, with a particular reference to the last two years. It is delivered on the assumption that a strong civic space contributes to the consolidation of democracy. The paper also recognizes the specific governmental policies and practices that have influenced civic space in the country, based on the CSOs, media, and citizens’ analysis. It emphasizes that the overproduction of laws that are not in line with the executive legal-administrative acts are not based on sufficient human and economic resources, and are translated into a poor implementation of the legislation to strengthen the civic space.
