Albania has provisionally closed its first three negotiating chapters in its EU accession process, marking a significant milestone on its path towards EU membership. At the ninth Accession Conference, the country closed the chapters on Science and Research (25), Education and Culture (26), and External Relations (30) following the European Commission’s positive assessment of its rule of law interim benchmarks earlier this year. Welcoming the achievement, the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union described it as proof of both Albania’s and the EU’s commitment to advancing the country’s European integration. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos also congratulated Albania, urging the country to maintain reform momentum by strengthening the rule of law, stepping up anti-corruption efforts, and continuing reforms in a transparent, accountable and inclusive manner.
